CD Problems Defined |
1. Does CD Drive Door operate OK If not then Check the mechanism. Loud grindy sounds indicate that the gears may be stripped. replace drive. No that tray is not a coffee cup holder.
2. Can you hear the music? Make sure the Volume controls on your machine are set high enough. If CD won't play but you can hear other sounds check for the cable going from CD to sound card. If there is no sound go to the multi media icon in the control panel and install/reinstall the sound card drivers. Check that MCI Cd Audio driver is installed. Usually this will tell you no driver but not always. Of course also check all cables i.e. Machine to speakers. Sometimes we put the Speaker cable into the mic output. no good.
3. Is the problem with one particular disk? If this is the case then the problem may be with the disk Clean it. Check for scratches. Sometimes a scratched disk can be rehabbed enough to copy by waxing it . Cleaning a disk use alcohol and a clean cotton swab or soft cloth. If it's soft Kleenex it may do also. If many disks will not play then try with a Que. tip to clean the lens in the drive if a blast or two of canned air won't do it. The laser reader is usually on the left side under where the CD sits. It's hard to see it. Work carefully don't rub the parts are fragile but then if it doesn't clean then the player may need to be replaced anyway. This assumes that the player is showing up on the Windows Explorer screen ,the light in front blinks Ok and the machine spins.
