1 Is the Computer not plugged in and turned on. Ok so this sounds pretty dopey but check it anyway. How many irate calls have we had on this one. Also be sure if your using a power strip that it is plugged in. Check to see if Monitor or others devices are lit and on. If not looks like an external power problem.
2. Has the Power Supply failed. Power supplies are a fairly regular and hard to diagnose some times, but if no light comes on at all check this. Usually you will also not hear the cooling fan(s) inside it ( usually) or else where inside the case. If their off you can bet on this one.
3. Does Computer Beep. If you don't hear a beep especially when you normally do then you have a couple of possibilities. If no power on light in front but fan works it is most likely the motherboard or some component on it. See Mother board Flow Chart.
4. Does it try to start. If it goes through some of its start up procedure but then hangs, check the following( these assume that the post procedure( the booting sequence) shows them normally):
If these are all true and if it makes it to the start of the Windows boot the odds are that the problem is in the Windows Operating system and not the hardware ( at least as far as a major hardware component failure).
5. Do You Hear Windows startup sound. If you can hear the Windows start up sound. You can bet that the problem is software related rather than hardware. however this is not certain but does push any hardware problem that may exist into the Windows hardware driver issue rather than the board itself. Try to reload the drivers for devices acting badly.
